MEET THE AUTHORS

The people who bring you Learners Online are professional educators who each month invest many hours of research time to find the best educational sites on the Web. But unlike others who merely report great sites, these instructors develop these sites into useful, age-appropriate instructional activities. Learn more about each of these great educators.

Geri Ruane

The Internet Challenge, featured monthly in Learners Online, is created by Ms. Geri Ruane, a freelance writer and elementary school computer teacher in Houston, Texas. She has designed Internet Challenges since 1997 and witnessed first-hand their ability to hone students' subject and computer skills as well as to develop self-esteem and confidence.

A member of ECOT (the Electronic Community of Teachers), Ms. Ruane desires to assist teachers in integrating technology into their curricula. She has been commissioned to create Internet Challenges for use in the Houston Independent School District and has collaborated with teachers at her own school, designing Internet activities to enhance specific instructional content. Students have responded enthusiastically to Internet Challenges, often choosing to work on them during recess!

In publishing her challenges, Ms. Ruane enjoys sharing her work with educators, parents and kids throughout the country. She is always eager to hear from other cybernauts about their Internet travels. Send e-mail comments or suggestions for future challenges to ruane@dellnet.com.
