New Year’s Resolutions …. why not consider helping students make resolutions related to their academic achievement. A student might want to read at least one hour a week; practice math facts daily for five minutes; or write in a journal daily. Since these are the student’s resolutions, they should be “fun” and relevant for them. Teachers could model their own “lifelong learning” by making a resolution to participate in a professional development event AND apply the new learning immediately! A good resolution for both teachers and students is to discuss and share progress on meeting their 2014 goals.
