About
Learners Online While
some educational publishers create original Web-based learning materials,
Learners Online recognizes that there are already hundreds of thousands
of wonderful educational resources online. Many are government-sponsored,
such as the Library of Congress, the Smithsonian, or the National Parks
Service. Rather than duplicating the work of so many content authorities, our focus is to harness these resources and make them instructionally relevant. We do this by painstakingly researching Web resources related to a curricular standard or objective within a specific subject area and grade range. Contracted teacher/writers choose from among the best related resources found and develop a thematic course of instruction around them. Learners Online began in 1997 as Online Education, Inc. The company was founded by Mary Ashmore, who identified early on the trend toward Internet use in education. After consulting with education leaders and investigating the potential of this growing market, she assembled a team of Internet-savvy writers and instructional designers to develop a line of Internet-learning products. In 1999 the company adopted its current name, reflecting the central role of the learner in every Web-based resource or guide we produce. Learners Online products are currently being used in schools around the world. We also produce proprietary educational content for non-profit organizations like PowerUp- Bridging the Digital Divide, The Science Place Museum, the United States Department of Education's 21st Century Learning Community Centers, North Carolina Press Foundation, and for a number of U.S. newspapers. In the past Learners Online has partnered with Ford Motor Company, Bell South, GTE and Verizon. See the Contracts and References section in order to view a detailed listing of current and past contracts. Learners Online, Inc. is headquartered in Dallas. |
